Annual Spring Sports Parade & Community Day
An afternoon parade and entertainment awaits the community of Little Silver at the Recreation Annual Spring Sports Parade. On Saturday, May 4, starting at 2:00pm sharp, rec baseball, softball and lacrosse will parade through the town center from the Fire House to Borough Field where they will assemble in front of the new borough annex building where grand opening ceremonies will take place. The event has evolved into a Little Silver community day with several local groups participating.
Mayor Bob Neff and members of the Council will preside over the ceremony. Since the late Mayor Suzy Cattleman and Councilman Jon Bitman were very instrumental in the planning of this new building, Suzy’s daughter, Anne Connell, and Jon’s wife, Dale Bitman, will cut the symbolic ribbon officially opening the building which houses bathrooms, concession stand, and storage areas for the Police Department and Recreation Department.
Local groups represented include the PTO who will be selling tickets to Little Silver PTO Night on May 16 at the Lakewood Blue Claws, the “Hope For Kim Fund” that will be raising money for a local ill resident who is presently in India for experimental treatment, the “Paint The Town Pink” organization, and Rec who will be signing up families for the first ever “Father-Son/Daughter Wiffle Ball Fundraiser Tournament” on May 11 to benefit the “Hope For Kim Fund”.
Refreshments will be free, including hot dogs, lemonade, candy, and ice pops.
Children will be challenged with races through several huge inflatables and an obstacle course designed by Fresh Personal Trainers. For kids who need to cool down from all the activities, they can get dunked by the famous dunking machine built by Tom Caruso of the Ye Olde Pie Shoppe.
Parent, 7th & 8th grade, and high school volunteers are needed. For more information, contact DougGlassmacher@gmail.com.
