MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR – JANUARY 2007

Parker Homestead Study Plan

          The generosity of Joyce and Nick Codispoti, of the Codispoti Foundation, has provided for a grant, not to exceed $50,000, to conduct a study plan for the Parker Homestead.  Also to be included, but less in depth, are the former Post Office (located next to the Library) and the house on the corner of Harrison Avenue and Rumson Road.  This study plan will be done under the direction of the firm of Farewell, Mills & Gatsch Architects of Princeton.

          I have asked the Codispoti’s to head our Board of Trustees for the Homestead, and they have agreed to do so, for which I am truly grateful.  Their interest in the Homestead restoration and this town is most sincere.  Anyone interested in serving on the Board on a working committee, please contact me, as once the study is completed, we will be ready to move forward.  Obviously, there will be much planning and work to be done toward meeting the goal of restoring this wonderful and so generous gift of the late Julia Parker, into the museum and educational facility of which we all will be proud.

          When the study is completed, we will be seeking grants and donations to implement the plan.

Sidewalk Replacement

          The sidewalk replacement on Markham Place is being financed by a N.J. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) grant.  We also applied for and recently received another DOT grant, which will be used next year for the repaving of Markham Place.

Cold Weather and Snow On The Way!

          When the snows come, I strongly encourage our scouts and young people in general to do a good deed by helping our elderly population.  Shoveling their sidewalks, walkways to houses and driveways would be greatly appreciated.

          Also, when snow is predicted, please do not leave your cars parked overnight on the streets – the plows must be able to have full run on all roads for the safety of all!
